Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Associate to join our investment team. The Senior Associate will play a crucial role in identifying, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities, as well as supporting portfolio companies in their growth and development. Additionally, the Senior Associate will be responsible for fundraising activities to secure capital for future investment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Deal Sourcing and Evaluation:

  • Proactively identify and evaluate investment opportunities in the fintech and health-tech sectors across Africa.
  • Conduct thorough market research and due diligence to assess market dynamics, competitive landscapes, and potential risks.
  • Prepare investment memos, financial models, and presentations for investment committee review.

Transaction Execution:

  • Lead the end-to-end deal execution process, including structuring transactions, negotiating terms, and coordinating legal and financial due diligence.
  • Work closely with legal and financial advisors to ensure smooth and timely transaction closings.
  • Assist in the preparation of investment documentation and regulatory filings.

Portfolio Management:

  • Monitor and support portfolio companies in achieving their strategic objectives and growth milestones.
  • Provide strategic guidance and operational support to portfolio company management teams.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews and assessments to track performance and identify areas for value creation.

Fundraising:

  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure capital from institutional investors, family offices, and other sources of capital.
  • Build and maintain relationships with potential investors, including conducting investor meetings and roadshows.
  • Prepare fundraising materials, including pitch decks, offering memorandums, and due diligence documentation.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts with external legal, financial, and marketing partners.

Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs, co-investors, and industry stakeholders.
  • Represent HealthCap Africa at industry events, conferences, and networking forums.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for HealthCap Africa and contribute to building its reputation as a trusted partner in the venture capital ecosystem.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; MBA or CFA qualification is a plus.
  • Minimum of 4years of cognate experience in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, or management consulting, with a focus on the African market.
  • Deep understanding of the fintech and/or health-tech sectors in Africa, including emerging trends, key players, and investment opportunities.
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex investment opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with entrepreneurs, investors, and senior executives.
  • Proven track record of sourcing and executing successful investment transactions in Africa.
  • Experience in fundraising for venture capital or private equity funds is preferred.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with a passion for driving innovation and supporting early-stage startups in their growth journey.
