Description

  • A Safety Coordinator at Bubemi Industries Limited helps ensure that all people and worksites – whether on land, offshore, in logistics, or construction – stay safe, comply with rules, and follow good health and safety practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

Here’s what someone in this position usually does:

Promote Safety Everywhere:

  • Help implement the company’s health and safety policies so everyone works in a safe environment.
  • Support safety leaders in keeping operations compliant with Nigerian laws and industry standards.

Monitor Risks & Hazards:

  • Identify hazards around sites – like work areas, vessels, equipment, and offices.
  • Carry out risk assessments to find conditions that could cause accidents.

Incident Reporting & Improvement:

  • Help support investigations when there’s an accident, injury, near-miss, or unsafe condition.
  • Record this information and help plan ways to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Training & Awareness:

  • Support safety training sessions – like toolbox talks, orientations, and workshops – so workers know how to stay safe.
  • Remind staff about proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), safe work procedures, and emergency processes.

Check Compliance:

  • Help monitor that the company’s safety rules are followed on site and in the workplace.
  • Track safety performance and help prepare reports or updates for managers.

Support Emergency Preparedness:

  • Assist in drills such as fire evacuation, spill response, or other emergency scenarios.
  • Ensure people know what to do and where to go in an emergency.

 

Skills & Qualities Typically Expected

While specific requirements can vary, most Safety Coordinator roles prefer or expect:

  • A certificate / Diploma / Degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of health & safety laws and best practices — including Nigerian regulations.
  • Strong communication skills to educate and remind workers about safety procedures.
  • Good attention to detail for spotting hazards and reporting them.
  • Ability to work with teams across departments
