Position Overview
- Professional Fire Fighters in the mining industry are responsible for safeguarding lives, property, and mining assets by preventing, controlling, and extinguishing fires.
- They also play a critical role in emergency response, rescue operations, and ensuring compliance with safety standards in high-risk mining environments.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Prevention & Control:
- Conduct routine inspections of mining facilities to identify fire hazards.
- Operate and maintain firefighting equipment, vehicles, and protective gear.
- Implement fire safety protocols and conduct regular fire drills.
Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to fire alarms, explosions, and hazardous material incidents.
- Perform rescue operations for trapped or injured workers.
- Provide first aid and coordinate with medical teams during emergencies.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to mining industry fire safety regulations and standards.
- Train mining staff on fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and emergency response.
- Document incidents and prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory bodies.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with mine safety officers, engineers, and local emergency services.
- Participate in risk assessments and contribute to safety improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of a Diploma/Certificate in Firefighting, Safety Management, or related field.
- Proven experience as a professional firefighter, preferably in industrial or mining settings.
- Strong knowledge of fire suppression techniques, hazardous material handling, and rescue operations.
- Physical fitness and ability to work under extreme conditions.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to high-risk environments including underground mines, processing plants, and storage facilities.
- Shift-based work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Use of specialized protective equipment and firefighting gear.
