Job Purpose

  • The Medical Officer at UAST Ihugh is a frontline clinician, preventive-health advocate and campus safety custodian, responsible for delivering ethical, responsive and student-centred primary healthcare within a university ecosystem.
  • The job purpose is to provide effective primary medical care, emergency response, preventive health services and health education to students, staff and authorised dependants, in line with CONMESS, MDCN standards and UAST’s health philosophy.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clinical Services: Conduct outpatient consultations, diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses. Provide first aid and manage medical emergencies prior to referral. Participate in on-call and shift duties as scheduled.
  • Preventive & Public Health Services Conduct medical screenings, fitness-to-study/work assessments and surveillance. Support immunisation, communicable disease control and health education programmes.
  • Clinical Records & Ethics Maintain accurate medical records (manual and electronic). Ensure confidentiality, informed consent and ethical medical practice. Support rational drug use and pharmacovigilance.
  • Institutional & Team Responsibilities Collaborate with nurses, laboratory staff and allied health professionals. Provide medical cover for University events when assigned. Participate in audits, morbidity reviews and continuous professional development.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • MBBS / MBChB from a recognised university.
  • Completion of Housemanship and NYSC (or exemption).
  • Full registration and current practising licence with MDCN.

Experience:

  • Entry level acceptable. 0–3 years post-qualification clinical experience.
